Two Fil-Ams join "Pirates of the Caribbean"

Two Filipino-American actors were chosen to be part of the fourth installment of Walt Disney Pictures' “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

Daphne Joy and Michael Rosales joined Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz in the movie, which will be screened across the country this month.

Rosales is one of the pirates on the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane).

Rosales was picked to play a “pirate from the Philippines” from a pool of over 4,000 aspirants, a press statement from Walt Disney said. It was his first-ever acting audition.

Also a hip-hop singer, the Fil-Am actor released his first full-length album called “Respect My Pride,” which features English and Filipino music. He already performed alongside Damian Marley and Busta Rhymes.

Joy, who was born and raised in Olongapo, moved to Los Angeles when she was just 8 years old. She began acting at the age of 18.

She appeared on US popular TV series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Criminal Minds" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." She was also part of recent hit "Just Go With It" starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.

She plays a mermaid in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
