President Benigno Aquino III met Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup on Thursday in General Santos City.
The President congratulated the beauty queen who was given a homecoming parade by her fellow "kababayans" in GenSan.
Supsup, a 24-year-old University of the Philippines (UP) magna cum laude graduate, was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Ms. Universe 2011 last Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Supsup finished B.S. Architecture at UP Diliman and topped the June 2010 Architecture Licensure Exam.
She is also a high school salutatorian from the Makati High School.
Supsup, who stands 5'7" and is from General Santos City, beat 14 other semi-finalists (there were 40 candidates at the start) in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant after answering the question, "What worthy cause do you identify yourself with and why?"
Her answer was: "I think the one worthy cause I can identify myself with is valuing education because I believe education is something that cannot be taken away from you. You can have money, you can have fame, but in the end, it can be taken from you. But education will always be there to help you."
Supsup will represent the country in the Miss Universe contest to be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil in September this year.
In a previous interview, Supsup shared her excitement to meet the President, adding: "Tuturuan ko po siyang mag-copra kung gusto po niya... paano magbunot ng niyog."
Post-coronation experience
Meanwhille, in an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Supsup said she is having a hard time finding time to rest after she was crowned as Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2011.
She said she is still overwhelmed by her victory.
"Until now I'm so overwhelmed. Ang daming nagte-text. Ang daming pumupunta sa bahay. So wala talagang time to rest. Just happy. Really happy," Supsup said.
The beauty queen also said she's also happy to have her parents who supported her all the way.
She also stressed that Binibining Pilipinas was the first beauty pageant she joined because she focused on her studies when she was in high school and in college.
She said that after passing the board exam, she can now give all her time as the reigning Binibining Pilipinas-Universe.
Supsup said she took Architecture in UP Diliman since she's into painting and art.
"I was planning to take up civil engineering just like my mom, but then I was also into painting and art. So architecture is the perfect combination of art and science kasi mayroong math and drawing. It's a combination of both. So I took up architecture," she said.
