Governor Vilma Santos Speaks up about Batangas Ambush

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos has finally broken her silence over reports that she was the target of an ambush that happened a month ago in Lipa City.

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Santos clarified that she had nothing to do with what happened.

“Masyado na namang na-exaggerate ang news. Akala kasama pati ako pati security ko. Hindi po. Empleyado po si Ka Cesar ng Kapitolyo,” she said.

Santos said she has no choice but to accept that this kind of danger comes with her job as the province’s governor.

“Ganoon talaga yata. I guess ito ang mga dapat naming tanggapin. Kung sasabihin ninyong nakakatakot [ako], totoo naman. Pero hindi ibig sabihin nito’y hindi ko itutuloy ang pagtitiwala na ibinigay sa akin ng mga Batangueño. My job is not easy. But again the fulfillment is ‘yong paniniwala nila na mayroon akong magagawa for Batangueños. So ‘yon na lang ang pinanghahawakan ko,” she said.

Santos said all she could ask for are prayers that she may be always be safe in doing her duties for her constituents.

“Prayers, everytime I leave the house. But I thank you. Sa totoo lang marami pong tumawag at talagang nagmamalasakit na ano na ba ang nangyari? Maraming salamat po. Kung mayroon man akong hihilingin, siguro ay prayers lang for guidance,” she said.

Last March 12, two people, including a liaison officer assigned at the provincial governor’s office, were killed in an ambush in Lipa City.

Santos’ son, Luis Mazano, was quick to announce on the same day that her mom was safe and was not the target of the ambush.

Movie with Sharon

Meanwhile, Santos revealed that there are talks about an upcoming movie that she and Megastar Sharon Cuneta will topbill.

“Excited din ako. Shawie, baka matuloy na tayo so I’m excited. I’m very very excited. Sana ho, sana. Nasa planning stage. Kung matutuloy, kung excited si Shawie, excited na excited din ako na sana makagawa na kami ng movie together,” she said.

As busy as she may appear, Santos emphasized that her family is still her first priority.

“Puwede ko ho sabihin na ang buhay ko talaga ay mga anak ko. Kung papaano ko nakakaya na gawin lahat ng ‘tong napakaraming roles sa buhay, hindi ko alam. I thank God para sa blessings na ito. Kayamanan ko na iyan,” she said.
