Charice says Houston one of her 'heroes'

International singing sensation Charice is still in disbelief that award winning singer and actress Whitney Houston has passed away.

In her official Twitter account on Sunday, Charice said she considers Houston as one of her heroes.

“One of my heroes, Whitney Houston. I will always love you.. RIP,” she tweeted.

In another tweet, Charice posted the hashtag #IWillAlwaysLoveYouWhitney, which is the title of Houston’s best-known song "I will Always Love You."

Charice said Houston’s passing is like losing her own relative.

“I still can't believe this. I'm really shocked and sad. :'( I feel like I lost a relative. I'm gon cry. I'm shaking. Love u Whitney... :'(“ she said.

It would be recalled that Charice sang Houston's "I Have Nothing" on the American talk show "Oprah" in 2008, which launched her international career.

"I Have Nothing" was also one of Charice's songs in her album under Star Records.

Aside from “I Have Nothing,” Charice also performed renditions of other Houston songs including “One Moment in Time” and “Run to You.”

Houston, who reigned in the 1980 and 1990s, has died at the age of 48.

Her bodyguard found her dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills at 3:55 Saturday afternoon (Sunday morning in Manila).

The cause of Houston’s death remains unclear.

Charice comes home on a wheelchair

Charice arrived in Manila Tuesday on a wheelchair after sustaining a foot injury.

In an interview, the "Glee" star said she injured her little toe while skateboarding in Los Angeles last Christmas

"Actually nangyari po siya ng Pasko dahil ako ay malikot. Nagi-skateboard ako at nahulog ako dahil iniwasan ko ang isang sasakyan na nandoon lang. Nagulat kasi ako. Iiwasan ko sana kaya lang nag-panic ako kaya nadulas ang skate board at nag-crack ang isang buto sa hinliliit," Charice said.

She said she will need to stay in crutches or on a wheelchair for 6 weeks.

Local media were caught by surprise after Charice was spotted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport riding on a wheelchair with her right foot bandaged.

Charice is home to celebrate the birthday of her mother, Raquel Pempengco.

Pempengco, who turned 40 today, said Charice and her family will be celebrating her birthday in Cabuyao, Laguna.

She said Charice will be reunited with her "Little Big Star" co-finalists in a party at a resort on January 14.

"Darating ang Little Big Stars. Invited sila lahat, kumpleto nandoon lahat sila," said Pempengco, referring to singers Sam Concepcion, Ralph Salazar and the other finalists.

"Gusto niya ako sanang sorpresahin pero mukhang siya ang masu-surpresa at nakumpleto ko ang Big Stars," she added.

For Charice, she said that it will be a big event for her as she will have a chance to catch up with her showbiz friends.

"Opo sa birthday ni mommy magkikita-kita kami. Ang plano lang namin, ang magaganap baka may kantahang maganap, pero ang importante ay ang bonding again," she said.

After a brief stay at home, Charice will be going on tour in the Asia-Pacific. She will also hold local concerts at the Araneta Coliseum and Cebu City this March.

"If she does this look anytime in the future we won't be surprise," ani Vince. “The hair that really make Charice different."

Charice Pempengco back to celebrate early Christmas in Manila

Charice is back in Manila to celebrate an early Christmas with her mother Raquel and brother Carl.

In an interview upon her arrival at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Friday, Charice said she would love to spend Christmas with her family but she has to go abroad for an important project.

"Actually gusto ko talagang mag-Christmas dito but I really have a very important work sa States. Gusto ko mang i-cancel pero super important talaga. Nandito ako ngayon di lang para sa concert kung hindi para mag-celebrate ng early Christmas na magkakasama kami. Pero di pa naman sure yon, isang flight lang naman yon at pwede naman akong bumalik anytime pero hindi pa sure yon," Charice said.

Charice is set to fly back to the US before December 25.

A month after her father's untimely death, Charice admitted she is still in mourning. But she was gratified to learn that a murder case was filed against Angel Capili, the suspect the killing of her father Ricky Pempengco.

"Nasa States ako nang tinawagan ako ng mommy ko at sinabing murder case nga ang isimpa napagdesisyunan. Siyempre part of me masaya dahil nabigyan ng hustisya ang dad ko, pero hindi ko pa din tanggap ang fact na wala na lahat yon nangyari. Charice Pempengco to appear on CNN's 'Talk Asia'

Charice is set to appear on CNN’s “Talk Asia” on Friday to talk about her humble beginnings and her journey to success.

The interview was done by CNN correspondent Anna Coren before Charice’s dad was stabbed dead last November 1 in Laguna province.

Charice said life was not easy growing up in a not so well-off and broken family.

Charice’s mom left her father years ago, bringing her and her brother along.

“Well, it was really a tough life, not really easy. My mom’s a single mom and she used to be my vocal coach and I really admire her. She’s definitely my inspiration and I look up to her a lot. I mean I decided to be a singer because of her. It was a tough life before but now this whole thing that happened to me really helped me a lot,” she said.

Charice said she had to join singing contests early on to help her mom financially.

“I told my mom to stop working because it was really hard. By the age of six, I was cooking rice and some stuff for my little brother. I was giving him the milk and everything… Every time I did all the singing contests and it was horrible,” she said.

“You start from 10 p.m. in the night and you finish at 7 a.m. in the morning and I had to go to school. She used to cry and she told me to stop and I said 'no' because that was the only way we could get a lot of money from it. I really sacrificed everything but at the same time, it felt great and it was worth it. Seeing my mom’s face every time I won made me feel great,” Charice added.

Charice also said she still gets overwhelmed by the turn of events in her life. She, however, believes she is still the simple girl she used to be.

“Yes. Yes I still get overwhelmed. It happened so fast but at the same time, I worked hard for it and I’m still working hard for it... For me, I’m still me. But, of course, my life has changed a lot. From the hard life, from a really tough life and now, I actually gave stuff that I really wanted to give to my mom,” she said.

The rest of Charice’s interview with “Talk Asia” will be available online at www.cnn.com/talkasia after the interview premieres on December 2 at 6:30 p.m., and on December 3 at 9:00 p.m. on CNN.

Charice Pempengco criticized for gaining weight

When international singing sensation Charice performed an original song on the season finale of "Glee" on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), Twitterverse was abuzz not just about her powerful performance, but also about her weight.

On the TV show, Charice, as Sunshine Corazon, performed "As Long As You're There" after her reconciliation with the show's lead character, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele).
But aside from her powerful production number, people could not help but notice that Charice is gaining weight.

It became obvious especially when she put her hair up and wore a fitted blue dress.

Some netizens, like Bret Wolfe, seemed not to mind though. "Charice has put on some weight! She looks beautiful," Wolfe tweeted.

Jessica Guerra noted that even though her idol gained weight, she is still very confident.

"Magaling siyang kumanta kahit mataba siya. Confident naman siya sa sinusuot niya. Kaya niyang dalhin style ng iba," Jessica Guerra said.

Melissa Sirois said that she sees nothing wrong even if Charice weighs 200 lbs.

"Why is everyone talking like Charice is 200 lbs? That dress with a WIDE belt would make anyone look heavier. I think she looks great as is," Sirois tweeted.

"Regardless of how people reacted on our dear Charice’s physical attributes, it doesnt affect any at all her performance and appearance on the said episodes but instead my admiration and excitement heated up and level up way way high!!!" netizen Chris said.

Others, however, were not too kind, with some calling on her to watch her weight.

"@roshelletally25 that was a fail. xD 'Who Charice?' gawd. xD and my dad said she looked 'bigger' than usual too. :P," user BuenaJill said.

"Ang ganda ganda ng boses niya pero halatang mas nanaba siya ngayon," her Filipino fan Faye Donna Osuna, a student from Laguna, said.

"Mataas ang boses niya at maganda pero parang mukha na siyang siopao," Sanna Samaniego, a mass communication student, said.

"A comment about Charice’s weight gain or a suggestion/reminder to watch her weight is not stupid. No matter how you justify how she looked: it’s just the hair style, the dress, the angle of shots, etc., (which could be true), the fact remains that on screen she did look fat and I was truly concerned," jazzyme said.
