Megan Young enjoys playing 'kontrabida' roles

Megan Young has admitted that she enjoys playing the role of a fierce antagonist rather than a lovable protagonist.

In an interview with Push.com.ph, the 21-year-old actress said, “It’s interesting to be the bitch. I love playing the bitch. It’s fun. It’s just something that’s not your typical bida role and it’s more fun playing character roles.”

Although she prefers taking on “kontrabida” roles, Young clarified that she is actually open to accept other types of roles, as long as it offers an interesting character.

“Okay sa akin kahit hindi kontrabida, basta okay ‘yung character," she said.

Proving this claim, she shared details about the diverse character she will portray in the upcoming ABS-CBN television series "Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Hiyas."

“My role there is Sapphire and I’m from the city. I own a company and my back story is about where I grew up. She’s a very giving person and she loves helping people," she said.

“My role in ‘Hiyas’ [is] very different. It’s so different kasi drama eh and siyempre kailangan in character ka, tapos ‘yung character ko sobrang opposite ko. She’s nice and pa-sweet siya eh,” she added.

Apart from acting, Young said she also hopes to venture into film production in the near future.

As a current filmmaking student in College of St. Benilde, she said, “Hopefully [I] maybe like get into directing or doing creative stuff like that [after I graduate].”

Megan Young: College First Before Beauty Contests

Megan Young wants to be a beauty queen someday but only after she finishes college.

In an interview during "US Girls August Awards 2011" event, Young said she has already received many offers to join beauty contests.

"Maraming nag-aalok sa akin na sumali sa beauty concert pero sa ngayon gusto ko muna tapusin ang college ko. I want to get a degree first. Kapag natapos na 'yon hopefully we'll see kasi I might finish mga 23 or 24 na ako. Pwede pa naman 26, so we will never know," Young said.

The actress said she always makes it a point to look beautiful and trim even if she has not yet joined any pageants.

"I'm always in the gym. I'm always getting myself ready kasi malay mo anytime naman pala bigla akong isabak so at least physically prepared ako, entally prepared ok na, kailangan na lang training," Young said.

The actress said she will only join a beauty contest if her heart states that it is the right time.

"50-50 pa ngayon kasi gusto ko kapag sumali ako 100% yung puso ko nandoon. Ayaw ko namang half-hearted sasali ako because of course it's a big responsibility dahil ire-represent ko ang country ko sakaling manalo ako in nationwide. I want to be fully prepared for that. Ayaw ko namang half-hearted lang because I'm representing the Philippines and that means a lot," she said.

Currently, Young is preparing for her newest television series "Hiyas" with Zanjoe Marudo.

Lauren Young Denies Competition with her Sister Megan Young

Is TV host-actress Megan Young jealous of her younger sister's big show biz break?

During the Kapamilya Gold trade event on Tuesday, rising drama actress Lauren Young has belied rumors that her older sister, who joined show business long before her, is envious of her upcoming TV series, the "Mula Sa Puso" remake. Lauren will play the lead in the series.

"Laging ganyan 'yung tanong sa amin. No. Kami ng sister ko, napaka-close namin. She's one of my best friends. We live together so lagi kaming nagkikita. Kung siya may show, masaya ako sa kanya. Kung ako may show, masaya [rin] siya," said Lauren.

The 17-year-old actress added: "It's good na parehas kaming may show ngayon at sabay ni-launch so we're very happy for each other."

When asked about Megan's reaction when she finally got the job, Lauren shared, "We started jumping around. Parehas kaming masaya kasi this is what I've been waiting for [for] so long. Pinaghirapan ko 'to. She's very happy for me and I'm very happy for her."

Lauren also stressed that show biz will never destroy the healthy relationship between her and her sister.

"Hindi naman dadating to the point na we're going to ruin our personal relationships dahil sa trabaho, dahil 'di naman tama 'yun for a family," she ended.

'Packaging'

In a separate interview, the older Young meantime defended herself saying that there is no brewing competition as she and Lauren have their own respective showbiz identities.

"I don't think na may competition kasi iba eh. Iba 'yung imaging. Iba 'yung packaging naming dalawa," she said.

"Alam naman natin na si Lauren ay sa dramatic side siya. Bigay na natin sa kanya 'yun. Sa akin naman kasi, iba 'yung packaging namin, ang show namin, lalo na 'yung show ko is a part of PHR, 'Precious Hearts [Romances]'. Iba talaga ang packaging," said Megan.

On the other hand, Megan humbly admitted that her younger sister is a better drama actress compared to her.

"Tanggap ko na 'yun. Sa akin naman, ibigay niyo na sa akin ang hosting (laughs)... Pero I also love acting. Sobrang gusto kong nagpe-play ng iba't-ibang characters. But of course, sa aming dalawa ni Lauren, we learn from each other," she added.

Asked who is sexier between her and Lauren, however, Megan quickly replied: "I am."
