"I honestly have goosebumps thinking about it because I was in an elevator with my mom when the earthquake began," aniya.

"It's kinda like panic and at the same time, you're on survival mode. It's like a feeling I've never had before. I'm just grateful that I'm unharmed," ani Marie.

"Sam was one of the people who reached out to make sure I was okay," pag-amin niya.

"I wish I had Filipino blood. I kinda feel like a little bit I do," hirit ni Marie.

Sarah Threatened by Rising Star Angeline?

Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo reacted to reports saying that she is threatened by "Star Power’s” first grand winner Angeline Quinto.

In an interview with "The Buzz," Geronimo merely laughed off the rumors, adding that it is not the right attitude.

"Masaya ‘yong iniisip ninyo na may threat. Ano psycho? Hindi, hindi magandang ugali yon," Geronimo said.

Geronimo stressed that she's happy for Quinto, who she considers as a friend.

"Masayang masaya ako for Angeline.

In 2002, Quinto lost to Geronimo in singing competition "Star For A Night."

Geronimo also accepted that, from now on, she will always be compared to Quinto.

The singer believes that it is now Quinto's time to shine.

Last March 6, Quinto and Geronimo held their much anticipated showdown on variety show "ASAP Rocks."

Geronimo admitted that she felt nervous doing a song number with Quinto.

Parang pinag sho-showdown, parang concert ulit. Sana hindi na ganoon sa susunod na production number together para mas magawa namin ng maayos," she said.

Currently, Geronimo is filming her first movie with Action-Drama Prince Gerald Anderson.

'ASAP' Welcomes Dolphy, Zsa Zsa's Daughter

Zia Quizon, the daughter of King of Comedy Dolphy and Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla, has followed in the footsteps of her parents by joining the world of show business.

In an interview with "The Buzz," Quizon said she joined showbiz because she wants to become a singer.

"Parang nangyari lang. I just want to sing and it just kinda fall into place lang," she said.

She is now part of musical variety show “ASAP Rocks’” “Acoustic Republic” along with Sam Milby and Yeng Constantino, among others. She was welcomed by the group on Sunday on “ASAP.”

She also joined the roster of Star Records’ artists.

The newbie singer admitted that, at first, she had a hard time adjusting since she is not used to the limelight.

"Nahihirapan ako noong una dahil sa spotlight. My parents [sanay] sila. Ako, I wasn't used to that. My mom really wanted me I guess to fulfill my potential lang talaga," she said.

Quizon, 19, said she loves jazz music and the blues. "Noong araw, when I was growing up, my dad will play ‘yong mga oldies talaga," she explained.

No Radiation Spike in Philippines: Scientists

Government scientists said Monday they were checking for spikes in radiation levels following two explosions at a nuclear plant in Japan, but that there had been no irregular increases.

The Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) said it had been conducting tests of the air since the first explosion at the Fukushima power station on Saturday, a day after a deadly quake and tsunami struck Japan.

"Based on (our) monitoring, there has been no increase in the levels of radioactivity since the time of the Fukushima event," the agency said in an emergency response bulletin Monday.

The bulletin came hours after a second explosion at the Fukushima plant.

The institute said any potential radiation contamination would not reach the Philippines, to the south of Japan, because the wind was blowing in a favourable direction.

"The plume from the site of the incident will not pass the Philippine territory," it said.

The PNRI is taking air quality measurements 5 times a day for possible radioactive content in the atmosphere. All readings were normal on Monday, according to the agency.

Dr. Eric Tayag, director of the Department of Health's (DOH) National Epidemiology Center, urged the public not to believe rumors being spread on via text messages and social networking sites regarding alleged "radioactive rain" country.

He said the public should rely on government agencies for information.

Tayag said the health risk caused by direct exposure on radiation would be vomitting, diarrhea, fever, disorientation, hair fall, cancer, genetic mutations, and eye cataracts.

Philippines safe from radiation

DOH Secretary Enrique Ona, meanwhile, said in a press statement Monday that the Philippines is safe from radiation exposure resulting from the damage to Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

Ona took part in a briefing presided by President Benigno S. Aquino III to evaluate the possible consequences arising from the Fukushima nuclear plant incident.

During the briefing, the PNRI assured that, at present, the Philippines is not in the path of any plume that may have been released by the plant.

It added that there was no reported meltdown in the damaged nuclear power plant.

The wind pattern in Japan also shows that the Philippines is unlikely to be hit by any radioactive fallout from Fukushima.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Mario Montejo also reiterated his call for the public not to believe in rumor and gossip regarding the nuclear power plant incident.

He said people should stop forwarding the said text messages so as not to sow panic among the people.

"DOST maintains a 24/7 link-up with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the highest authority on nuclear matters for advice on the current situation of the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Available data do not indicate any immediate threats to the Philippines," the agency said.

"It is recalled that the design of the Fukushima reactor is different from that of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In the event of a meltdown at Fukushima, the melted fuel is expected to stay within the stainless steel containment, preventing its release to the environment. The Chernobyl power plant did not have a reactor building concrete shield and steel containment," according to the PNRI.

"A plume trajectory study from the Fukushima site by the World Meteorological Organization based in Melbourne, Australia showed that the plume from the site of the incident will not pass the Philippine territory as of March 14, 2011," it added.

Although they don’t personally know each other yet, the young drama actress is excited to finally be friends with the newbie actor.

Ciara Sotto has Found her Niche in Theater

"This has got to be my favorite role. I am in love with theater and being cast in Rent is another milestone in my career as a performer," sambit ni Ciara nang makausap siya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa telepono noong Lunes, March 7.

Dugtong pa niya, "I had to imbibe the character well so I watched the movie and the Broadway play on DVD. I also watched movies and focus on people with AIDS [Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome]."

"I'm surely going to miss singing upside down!" tawa ni Ciara. "I'm going to miss everyone in the cast, the staff and crew. They've been really helpful to me."

SHEREE & GIAN.

"I always tell Sheree that she's the 'hot and sexy Mimi.' I just don't really see myself sexy. I'm more boyish than sexy!" natatawa niyang sabi.

"But Sheree is my friend and she was helpful, too," pahabol niya.

Ang leading man nila sa Rent ay si Gian Magdangal, who played the role of Roger.

"At first, I thought that I would have a hard time. But Gian's a good friend and so is Sheree, so I kinda got the hang of it after a week of rehearsals. I just had to do what was asked of me in the script and I was just following the instructions of my director," saad ni Ciara.

TITO SOTTO. Pero pumayag ding manood ang TV host-politician during the play's final run.

"My dad says he liked the play and the whole production. He says that he could sense that I was a little reserved because I didn't come out malaswa!" natawang sabi ni Ciara.

IN LOVE WITH THEATER.

"Like I said, I'm in love with theater. And I think I'm going to stay," sabi niya.

"That's actually very flattering because theater is a lot harder than TV and film because we are not allowed to have a take two. The discipline and commitment is very different from what I was used to.

"And on stage, I could feel the fulfillment right away because I am able to hear how people react to me. It is a great achievement for me na makapasok sa teatro, because hindi superstar ang hinahanap ng teatro kundi pure talent," saad niya.
Anong pakiramdam niya kapag nababasa o naririnig ang good reviews about her performance?

"Overwhelmed!" bulalas niya. "I am so overwhelmed kasi bago pa lang ako sa teatro and I feel appreciated already. I am humbled and very happy because I've never felt so appreciated until Magsimula Ka, and now, Rent."

"After Rent, I'm going to do another musical in August, and our re-staging of Magsimula Ka might push through in September. But right now, I'm busy working on the grand finals of Talentadong Pinoy Battle of the Champions, Celebrity edition on March 13," banggit niya.

Hindi man natuloy ang dapat sanang gagawin niyang shows sa Las Vegas, nakatulong daw sa kanya ang mga training na ginawa nila doon sa ginagawa niya ngayon.

"All the hard work and discipline I learned in Vegas paid off. I was on my own and I had to stay healthy and I couldn't be late, et cetera, so I got accustomed to that kind of training, which is how it is in theater."

POLE DANCING. In fact, plano pa rin daw niyang mag-aral abroad.

"I still have a lot to learn. I'm teaching the beginners' classes now at Movement Dance Studio and I plan to take a seminar out of the country so I will be certified to teach intermediate classes too," saad niya.

HAVING A BABY. When it comes to her marriage with Jojo Oconer, very smooth daw ang pagsasama nila.

"Whenever God wants us to have one. My husband and I have been really busy and we still want to do a lot of things and we're very supportive of each other's goals in life, so we're not in a rush naman," sabi ni Ciara.

But offscreen, Iwa Moto is very happy to be working with both Dennis Trillo and Heart Evangelista.

Pauleen Luna: "Pinipigilan kong ma-in love kay Dennis Trillo."

Text by Loretta G. Ramirez. Photos courtesy of GMA Network.

"Pinipigilan kong ma-in love kay Dennis."

Now and Forever—Agos and Zaido."

"He is very special to me.

Fil-Am Oscar Winner a Former ABS-CBN Actress

It's been more than a week after the Oscar Awards, but this Filipino-American from New York still could not believe that the film she co-produced with two other Filipinos, Stephen Dypiangco and Gigi Dement, won an Academy Award for best short film.

"God of Love's" Oscar win is an honor Stefanie Walmsley said she shares with all her kababayans.

"It means everything. I knew that it was an honor to be from the Philippines and I’m very proud to be Filipino," she said.

Walmsley was born in the Philippines. As a child of an American expat, she spent her life going back and forth between the United States and the Philippines.

Walmsley is no stranger to show business. She was a member of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle before she moved to New York in 2000.

In the US , she acted on television movies like "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story" and "Noriega: God’s Favorite," where she worked with Oscar nominee and multi-award winner and actor Bob Hoskins.

But Walmsley said she never thought she would be a film producer - an Oscar winning producer at that.

Her friends said she's got the knack for it.

Kim Chiu is Proud to Finish High School

Drama princess Kim Chiu did not hide her emotions when she delivered a speech in front of her high school batchmates during their graduation day on Thursday.

Chiu was among the thousands of students who was granted a high school diploma because she passed the Department of Education’s alternative learning system test.

The agency declared that she had passed their high school accreditation standards.

In her graduation address, the young actress bursted into tears because she was finally able to finish secondary education.

Talking to “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Chiu revealed that it was actually her grandmother’s wish for her to finish school even before she ventured into the entertainment world.

Amid her success, Chiu disclosed that it was not easy to study and work at the same time.

Kapag walang work, nag-aaral ako, nagrereview para sa exam,” she related.

The young star also belied the notion that all artists do not dream of finishing their studies.

Nonetheless, Chiu was delighted for what she has achieved.

Pero ayun natapos siya,” she said.
